2,2′-[[(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)imino]di(methylene)]bis(4-methylphenol), H2L5 = 1,1′-[[(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)imino]di(methylene)]di(2-naphthol), H2L6 = 1,1′-[hexahydro-1H-benzimidazole-1,3-diyldi(imino)]di(2-naphthol), H2L7 = 2,2′-[hexahydro-1H-benzimidazole-1,3-diyldi(imino)]bis(4-fluorophenol), H2L8 = 2,2′-[hexahydro-1H-benzimidazole-1,3-diyldi(imino)]bis(4-tert-butylphenol) and H2L9 = 2,2′-[hexahydro-1H-benzimidazole-1,3-diyldi(imino)]bis(4,6-di-tert-butylphenol). six new mononuclear complexes of manganese(III), [Mn(L1)(CH3OH)N3]·CH3OH 1, [Mn(L1)(CH3OH)(NCS)]·CH3OH 2, [Mn(L2)(CH3OH)N3]·CH3OH 3, [Mn(L4)(CH3OH)N3]·CH3OH 4, [Mn(L6)(CH3OH)2]·NO3 8 and [Mn(L7)(CH3OH)2]·NO3 9, and three Iron dinuclear complexes [Fe2(L2)2(µ-CH3OH)(µ-OH)]·CH3OH 5, [Fe2(L1)2(µ-CH3OH)(µ-OH)]·CH3OH 6 and [Fe2(L4)2(µ-CH3OH)(µ-OH)]·CH3OH 7, have been synthesized by Ligands. The complexes were characterized by spectroscopic methods in the solid state (IR) and in solustion (UV-Vis). Single-crystal X-ray analyses were performed with 1, 2, 4, 8, 9 and H2L6. The catalytic potential of complexes (1 and 2) has been tested for the oxidation of primary alcohols using H2O2 as oxidant. The effects of various parameters including the molar ratio of oxidant to substrate, the temperature, and the solvent have been studied. catalyst 2 the most powerful catalytic activity in oxidation of alcohols. Excellent conversions have been obtained for the oxidation of benzyl alcohols containing electron-donating groups on para-position.
